First Day of Kindergarten

Yeah - it's finally here! Lindsey has been so excited to start kindergarten, and today was the day!

She was up by 7 and ready for the day to start. She got dressed in her outfit designed by Hannah Montana, ate breakfast and brushed her teeth with no complaints. At 7:30, she was heading out the door. Unfortunately, the bus doesn't com until after 8. So she had to wait a little longer.

We went out at 8 and took some pictures. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. The bus was a little late on the first day. Our neighbor Kellar who is in first grade came to our corner and got on the bus with Lindsey. I think that may have helped her a little. They sat together on the way to school.

After she was on her way, we went to school too and met her when she got off the bus. Since it was so late, she missed lining up outside with her class, and instead went right in. She was a little lost at first (I didn't go in but watched from the door) and an aid asked her who her teacher was and got her going in the right direction.

David and I went to the new parents breakfast in the cafeteria for donuts. It was fun to talk with some of the others in the same position.

Surprisingly, I never cried. It all happened so fast that I didn't really have the chance. The best part was that she was so eager to go and not worried at all.

She got home about noon, 45 minutes after school let out, and was the last off the bus. We'll see how the schedule improves next week once everyone knows what's going on.

Some highlights from her day: she drew a pictures of herself in London Town, read a book about the Gingerbread Boy, something about her gingerbread ran away and she has to find him tomorrow, she stayed "green" all day - behavior chart, was the office helper but didn't really have to do it today. She really enjoyed it and wants to go back tomorrow.

Last night we went to the school to see her classroom and meet her teacher, Miss Taylor. Lindsey said she reminded her a little of Taylor Swift. She read them a story while the parents filled out papers. It was fun.
