We took Lindsey to see Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts on Friday night at the Peoria Civic Center. Our friends Todd and Suzie took their 6 year old daughter to see Carrie Underwood earlier this year and she fell asleep. This was not going to happen to us! The concert did not start until 8pm and Lindsey was excited. As we sat down in our $75 cheap seats (yikes!) in the second tier at the back of the arena, we were happy to see that the stage extended the entire length of the floor with people sitting in the middle. Taylor started things off promptly at 8:20. Loud noises or the possibility of loud noises are not Lindsey's favorite things in the world. David brought home ear plugs from work for her but she still insisted on holding her hands to her ears. The novelty of a teenager that has sold 3.4 million albums and dresses in short skirts and high cowboy boots soon wore off and before we new it, she was asleep.

With Lindsey out and a very sound sleeper, we focused on enjoying the rest of the concert. We laid her down between two seats and waited for Rascal Flatts to start their show. Much to our surprise the show started with a lovely woodland scene followed by the approach of a comet through the woods that ended in the loudest pyrotechnic explosion you can imagine. We both panicked and lunged towards Lindsey who was about to fall out of her seat. She quickly went back to sleep and does not remember anything. The rest of the show was amazing as they played hit after hit from all of their albums. The stage was very cool and they used it well. At one point the lead singer took a small boy from the crowd and walked him around the entire stage. The boy would wave and high five the crowd just like the lead singer. It was pretty unbelievable and the crowd went crazy! The encore was awesome. They came back out and played Me and My Gang ending with balloons and confetti dropping from the ceiling. The last song was Bob that Head and they were joined on stage by comedian Ron White who was performing in the Civic Center theater at the same time. The whole thing was pretty crazy and we had a great time. It will probably be a while before we take the kids back to a ($75!) concert, but Lindsey had a good time while she was awake.
